The Problem with Single-Unit Gadget Reviews
When a new flagship phone or ultrabook launches, dozens of reviewers receive loaner review units from manufacturers. But individual reviews suffer from inherent flaws:
- Silicon Lottery & Sample Variance: A single sample may run hotter, throttle faster, or display slight screen tint differences compared to retail units.
- Subjective Brand Affinity: Individual reviewers carry ecosystem preferences (iOS vs. Android, macOS vs. Windows) that skew final verdict tone.
- Inconsistent Testing Conditions: A battery test run at 50% brightness is not comparable to one run at a calibrated 150 nits, so two reviews can disagree while both are accurate.
How We Work
TechSilico does not test hardware, and we never claim to. What we do is read the outlets that do run instrumented tests - RTINGS, Notebookcheck, DXOMARK, GSMArena, SoundGuys and others - compare their published results, and tell you what they add up to. Every figure we quote names the outlet it came from and links to the page it appeared on.

Muhammad Ahmad is the founder and editor-in-chief of TechSilico. He reads the published benchmark results from the outlets that actually measure hardware - RTINGS, Notebookcheck, DXOMARK, GSMArena, SoundGuys and others - cross-checks them against manufacturer specifications, and explains what they add up to for someone about to spend their own money. TechSilico does not test hardware, and every article says so.
